Who said functional furniture can’t be fun? Certainly not OLLA. Fed up of not being able to find the exact furniture they wanted for their bedroom, Ole (aged 8) and Ella (5) decided to take matters into their own hands, and came up with the idea for modular furniture that you can build yourself, much like LEGO. Dubai-based OLLA was born, and since then the company has been working to bring their furniture to the world through funding on Indiegogo.
The product itself is beautiful in its simplicity, and that’s what makes it so effective. The components consist of four kinds of connections and one kind of block in different lengths, which serve as the building blocks to whatever kind of furniture you want to make. The process is so easy, the kids can create and build their own furniture. Add to this the choice of colour combinations, and you’ve got kids bedroom furniture that is completely customisable, which kids can design and assemble themselves. A great way to get kids feeling creative, while also instilling an interest in engineering and design.
There are several pieces currently in the OLLA collection, suitable for kids from babies upwards. You can build items from cots, beds and chairs to shelves and desks, and the best part is that the parts are universal. That means the parts are reusable, making it possible for you to turn one piece of furniture into another. No need to get rid of that cot once the baby’s outgrown it – simply dismantle it and rebuild it as a chair!
The universal nature of the components is what really makes the OLLA furniture so exciting. Not only does this mean you can make multiple pieces of furniture out of the same parts, and mix these up as often as you want, it means children can even come up with their own designs. The possibilities of what you can build are endless, and the only limit is your imagination.
