Wearable tech is becoming more and more popular in the field of sports and fitness, with numerous different devices coming in this space that help users to improve themselves. Now, wearable tech is being introduced in golf, baseball and tennis, with a new range of sensors, introduced by Zepp, allowing users to improve their swing by providing real time feedback and information regarding their performance.
There are three different sensors that are provided by the company, one for each different sports. The sensors track the movement of your swinging arm as well as the angle at which you hold your bat, racquet or golf club, and records up to 1000 data points every second. For instance, golfers can attach the 1×1 inch accelerometer on their gloves, allowing the sensor to track the movement, angle and speed of your swing and more importantly, the motion plane of the club. There is a companion app available for smart phones, which allows users to review the information about their performance. Information about the performance of pro players is also available in the app, which allows users to compare their performance and see how much progress they still have to make.
For baseball and tennis players, the sensors do a similar job. However, rather than being fitted on the gloves, the sensors can be instead fitted on the bat or the handle of the racquet. This allows baseball players to know when their bat is in the optimal hitting zone, and more importantly the precise location and motion of the strike. Those who play tennis can get information regarding top spins, flat shots and slices. The intelligent sensors are able to detect whether each hit is a serve, backhand or a forehand. This intelligent sensor is available for a price of $149.99
The sensors provide players with real time feedback regarding their performance and allow them to analyze how far they have to go as yet. What other applications can you think of that can be used to further improve the sports performance in different sports or activities?
